Coconut Yogurt II

I tried two of these three yogurts. The plain coconut yogurt sweetened with Agave was a tad on the sweet side.

The goat yogurt was nice. Not too strong on the goaty taste.

Unfortunately, the Gata marionberry yogurt started growing mold and I was unable to try it. It still had two weeks before it's due date. I'm thinking maybe the foil lid came loose.

I am still not having trouble with coconut creamers or coconut ice cream so I will be continuing to do my trials on finding a tolerable coconut yogurt. I need some serious probiotics and I would like to supplement the pills and powders with yogurt - if I can find one that I like and, of course, tolerate.

Now - my hubby doesn't care for the coconut aftertaste on the ice cream but then he has a few more choices on foods he can eat. I taste more of the silky, melting deep chocolate.
And I find I only get three servings out of the container as opposed to the four servings listed on the nutritional label.
I don't mind coconut on some items. The plain coconut yogurt that was too sweet had a very definite coconutty aftertaste.

Coconut Yogurt

Saturday, my mom took me out to lunch and we zoomed downtown to get birthday gift cards for my daughter's birthday. We parked in the very steep Powell's bookstore parking garage. I gave my mom a thrill ride, an almost carnival-type/octopus ride in that parking garage with my stick shift car.
Then we sauntered - make that carefully dashed across Saturday traffic to the Anthropology store. My mom almost bought this gorgeous shoulder bag. My sister is always badgering both my mom and I to buy more current clothing - that fits. Does the bag count? It had the most delicious pockets. And soft. I think I was petting it.
Maybe the daughter will buy this for her beloved mommy?

Then we went to Whole Foods on the next block to look for the coconut yogurt. I found two types plus one made from Goat's milk. We also snagged some sumptuous (but can't be healthy for you) birthday cupcakes.
Then we dashed back to Powell's to get that gift card so as not to use up our free parking hour.

All in all - a very productive mission - getting my mom out of the house, giving her some excitement in the parking garage and showing her the anthropology store.

A first review of coconut yogurt. The one on the right is a plain version sweetened with agave syrup.
I am interested in repopulating my gut with good probiotics from yogurt, rather than from my non-dairy pill made by Schiff. I'm not certain if the pill is causing a reaction.
This plain yogurt was too sweet and too coconutty. I frequently enjoy a coconut ice cream made by Luna & Larry. It is sinfully rich in chocolate but not overly sweet and there is just a hint of coconut aftertaste. My favorite is dark chocolate and it is sweetened with agave syrup. And I see by their website that Luna & Larry have some new flavors - I'll have to see if my store will stock them.

Unlike most alternative ice creams, Luna & Larry's use just a few ingredients. Like five.

Back to the yogurt: this one is made by Gata foods in Tigard, Oregon (buy local).
They also use just a few ingredients. Less for me to react to.

I have to wait and see if I have a reaction to this coconut  yogurt but  I plan on trying the marionberry variety next to see if the berry shines through and not the cloying sweetness.

Mimic Cream

I did a Whole Foods run today. Something I do about every two months or so. My  local grocery stocks many of my 'alternative' foods now but Whole Foods still tends to bring them to market faster.
Baking aisle: Agave syrup, nut butters
Chip aisle - at the end - it's the CHOCOLATE section
sports bars - Lara bars - reading labels again - can't have the ones with almonds
Past the frozen aisles  to canned goods - there's the tuna.
Perimeter walk to dairy section to see what's new.
.
Whole Foods stocks canned tuna in water that is actually water.  Label reading - love it or hate it. When the front of the tuna label says "packed in water" - well that should be  - uhh - water. But it typically means packed in a vegetable broth which is derived from soy. Major allergen for me.
And then you come to the chocolate aisle. The house brand '365' has one without soy or dairy that is good and not horribly expensive. They seem to stock something for everyone's 'tastes' (or is that allergen?).

Perusing the coconut milk offerings- did you know there is a coconut yogurt? I must have missed it. I would like to try it.  Next time...
I did see a product called Mimic Cream which is made from brown rice and almonds and supposedly makes a good substitute for cream in your recipes. It whips up and does everything whipping cream does.
