Knit Knotted Scarves

Pencil Girl sent this photo to me this morning from her 4-H sewing group.
They made these awesome scarves made from old tshirts.

I immediately replied with "Off with their heads!"
lol
I try not to show faces - especially if I didn't ask permission beforehand. I also rarely post photos of me. Nor do I name people when I post faces. All part of my internet confusion game.

Anyway - aren't these nifty? They cut one inch strips from the bottom of tshirts and knotted them together with a pattern from Linda Lee. Kind of like a big macrame project.

I also finished this week my (stupid*%$#@&##) hedgehog bags. They have a front zippered pocket with vinyl so you can see inside. I sell them as Lipsense bags in my RunningWithHandmade etsy shop.

I was chatting with another sewing blogger about how someone should make (and photograph) all the ways you can make zipper ends for toiletry pouches for a quick look at BEFORE you sew.

I picked the wrong way - which worked on the first bag. However, the next ones rebelled.
Which started to  make me very grumpy until I sat down with my seam ripper and made them right.

So, there!

Hubs is dorking around in the hangar. Making everything onto rolling stock (if it didn't roll before), re-painting walls, generally being crazy. But, both planes do fit inside.

That J-5 (orange) is so almost ready to start it's engine and take it's maiden voyage.

I made four rope bowls for gifts this last two weeks. Two sewing peoples guilted me into sorting my scrap bin(s) and afterwards, it was a quick grab of the ziploc bag to utilize small scraps in the color I wanted.

One went to Finland, Two to the UK (with second winging it's way to Ireland), and the final one to my CreativeGirl friend.  I discovered, I had been remiss in making her an orange one (her favorite color). I have one more to make (later, much later) as a gift to another sewing friend. We'll maybe call her MarineGirl.

We had some 34' nights recently - a little early, so I made haste and cleaned off my back patio, throwing the houseplants into the garage. That frost was a little too close for comfort.

This frog is a particularly ugly lumpy brownish green color - not the cute spring green of my other frogs.

My dear daughter, is on a fall camping trip from Seattle down Highway 101 to Yosimite. She stopped off for a very quick 21 minute visit, hauling our Christmas Present!

How perfect it is. Got the mountains, the fly fisherman, the river, the floatplane. All etched on ceramic tile and then hand-glazed. One of a kind perfectness. Might be the best gift ever.

This from my daughter who lives in Alaska.
This photo was taken recently on the way to Seward. I just love this picture of the mountains with their dusting of fresh snow and the reflection in the water.

I'm planning to make note cards from this image.

Sewing Gift

I recently won a prize on Red Letter Quilts that was amazing.

A fun pencil pouch loaded with fun fabrics.
I turned some of those fabrics into this CD Holder for Heidi.

I had fun sewing with someone elses fabric selections. She likes to sew quilt, so I found several sewing themed fabrics in my stash that coordinated with hers. I hope she likes to listen to CD's when driving....well, even if she doesn't, she can throw it up on her car visor and smile every time she looks at it.

I was going to put a Stearman Biplane patch here but Miss T.G.I.F. jumped up and said, "SEW ME". And this is on the back side - aka the side that faces the car visor. No one will ever see this patch except the recipient.

Ahh-Choo Giveaway

Pencil Girl wanted a tissue holder. Do you?

Any of the above or comment below with your preferred color, stripe, print, dots, lace, airplane,  or ?

I'm more than happy to make one and post it to you. These are for standard USA pocket tissues with the opening running end to end. I know the japanese tissue packs are thinner than this holder.  I'm not sure about Europe. USA pocket tissue pack is about 1/2" thick (1.27 cm)

I'll be sending them inside out (flatter) without the tissue pack.

I'm mostly using scraps, except for some Tula Pink rabbits that snuck onto the cutting mat.

Rusty and I went outside to smell things - a few raindrops are very welcome to our parched yard.
My zucchini I planted in late July are coming on strong - I swear I looked yesterday and missed the big honker in back.

My pumpkins and cucumbers are blooming crazy with little 'fruits' starting next week. Everyone else planted at the normal time in June and had orange pumpkins in August. We had about four months with no rain this summer.

By planting late, I'll have
orange pumpkins in October. Plus I was super lazy about the garden with too much overtime and no rain and dragging hoses around.

Anyway - leave me a comment or contact me directly at k8hobbies (At)yahoo (dot)com if you'd like a free tissue holder.
The leftovers will get listed into my etsy shop.

4:42pm - I sewed some more up this last hour:::

backsides

...and four more last night.....

More Heart Pouches

More Heart Pouches for small things.
Coins, Earbuds, Lucky rabbit foot, whatever.

Two go as gifts - I'll let Connie and Janine pick their favorite.
The other two will go into my etsy shop.

I didn't delve into my new Japanese fabrics, although one came from there in a gift - cute bunny rabbits! The other fabrics are form the small scrap basket, trying to keep going on my new year's resolution of "keep sewing until you use the fabric up". ahem.

I think the Japanese fabrics need to age a bit longer.

Earbud heart tute is here.

Snap Bag 2

I haven't sewn one of these Snap bags in a while. In fact, this one was mostly sewn already and just needed a pick-me-up hand stitch finish.

Embellished with tiny pom poms.

It "snaps" when you pull the top edges apart and snaps back together to keep your items inside secure. Its a fun "snap" sound too.

I need to make some more for my etsy shop.

Saturday Afternoon

These are super quick to make. Reading the SMS blog before work this morning led to making these this afternoon.
Very fast to make and the directions are spot on.

These small zippered pouches are to store your ear buds. The key ring can attach to my daughter's book bag. Instead of stuffing her ear buds into her pocket- she can have a dedicated storage spot.
I made two.

The first one used the black checked fabric with the red plaid - but when it was done - it was not my daughter at all. Then I pulled out the orange polka dot fabric and then the blue (turtle) batik and this one is more her style.

My local Thriftway had the Turkeys on sale. I think they had the best deal too. Spend $100 and you get the turkey for FREE.  Spending $100 wasn't hard (when the kids were home) - you can see that Eggnog for the boy there. He's old enough now to spice up that eggnog.

My Thriftway has really embraced organic/local/gluten-free/allergy-free foods including
the turkey on the right.
I don't tend to react to the turkey. It's more the stuff they inject them with. Probably some soy-based liquid.  The Norbest turkey is for the (polite) family event on Thursday where they will devour the carcass. The Mary's turkey on the right is for my husband and I later.

Instead of a dessert for my gluten-free offering, I am making my Butternut Squash soup recipe for a first course. I can always make Rice Krispy Treats with chocolate on top for an easy dessert that I can handle in small bits and everyone else loves.
