Missing Package And No Communication

The Post Office officially sucks at communication.

They ignored my case.
They ignored my sister's case.
They ignored my son - the recipient of two christmas packages that were placed into parcel lockers at his apartment complex.
They won't even address the issue of no keys to the parcel lockers.

Other than geo-tracking them to the parcel lockers, there's been no word.

I filed my priority claim today - one month after the package disappeared.

I went to Fabric Depot today and re-bought all the fabrics. Of course that's impossible. I bought the first fabrics for the quilt in October. The store is sold out of the original fabrics.

Moving on. Pencil Girl was unable to come today, so we did about a thousand messages back and forth.

Anyway, I did want to address a concern of several of my readers. It is highly unlikely your package will go astray. If you package it well, secure the label (inside the box and outside). Utilizing a good condition new box (for stability), wrapping in plastic (in case it gets wet).

In my 40 plus years of shipping packages, I have only had a handful go stray and I send a lot of packages.

I just drew the lottery on an emotionally charged christmas package to my son who moved out of state.

Fabrics all washed and doing their drying thing. I'll cut them out next weekend.

Oh - the photo above is of the beach south of me, down by Coos Bay, Oregon, taken by my cousin. The moon and the waves conspired to provide the BIG wave.
Very exciting winter surf on the Oregon coast.

My new favorite song heard on the radio this morning.
You  have to listen to that piano. mmmm..mmmmm One of the better re-makes of a classic Bob Dylan song: Don't think twice, it's all right.

Hatfield Marine Science Center

I grew up going to Newport as a child. My parents were school teachers and every summer we would take off on car trips throughout the West. I had two great-aunts in Newport - sisters to my grandma, and we would pay our respects each time we were near.

The Hatfield Marine Science Center played a big part in my childhood as my dad was a science teacher. Nowadays you can choose to go to the flashier (i.e. expensive) Oregon Coast Aquarium made famous by Keiko the whale (of Free Willy claim) who was transported partway by UPS.
Keiko is now gone - I think Iceland or Greenland (google it).
Anyway, the Hatfield center  exists as part of the Oregon State University Research Arm and is still, amazingly, free.

Mercer Lake And Bob's Creek

We rented a boat and fished all day in brilliant sunshine.
Catch & release plan as we are staying one more night.

I want a fuscia 'tree'.
I think I need a place at the beach where fuscia's & geranium's thrive.

Mercer Lake Resort

Bob's Creek - just south of Strawberry Mtn.

One of the few places with sunshine. To get to some of the tide pools, you need to cross the creek. Happily, a 'bridge' was available and we carefully balanced our way to the other side.
A powerful wind blows down the mountain ravine dueling with the Pacific winds creating a swirling effect above us. I only lost my hat once.
The tide was coming in so we could not explore very much. Lots of giant 10" sea anemones--further out.
Photo below has some half dollar sized anemones.
Sea anemones are always fun to poke in the center and watch all the waving arms close up.

Haceta Head Lighthouse

Good thing it was sunny on Mercer Lake. Waldport never emerged from the white-out beach fog.
There were pockets of sunshine south of Yachats which we took advantage of near Strawberry Mtn. to look at tide pools.

Coastal weather can be blustery or calm, sunny or foggy, always temperate.

We declined to hike up to Haceta Head Lighthouse as it was very foggy and windy.

Mushywear's Shannon managed it a week ago.

Rockaway Beach

We drove down to Rockaway Beach this weekend. It was sunny on Saturday, stormy during the night and like this the next morning.

A few years ago, the boys were boogie boarding. The beach is often sunnier than in the valley.
This particular beach has a very shallow slope which makes it fantastic and easy to practice your moves. If my child is reading this, then I'll add --unless you are middle aged.

The quintessential beachy 'dime store'.
