Easter Basket

I needed a fast gift for Easter.
To hold all the candy.

I turned to my clothesline and 45 minutes later  --Ta Da!
Very satisfying craft.

I went with pink and purple threads. I wanted the basket to be big enough to hold the candy and tried a racetrack oval for the bottom with success.

I switched out thread and bobbins several times to get the striping and then I wanted the beefy handles at the end - utilizing three rows of clothesline.

I use my wonder clips to mark the start and end of the handles and eyeball it to make sure they are evenly sized. For this, I find using the white/natural color thread to be useful. If you make one handle super gigantic, it's easy to sew it down more to match without anyone knowing.

I finished it with a swirl and hand-tacked the swirl down. Very nice work.

We are taking easter dinner over to the sister who is deeply depressed. We're trying for a group - en masse - all six of us - effect.  No pressure - just doing what you do - on Easter.

This will be supportive without being threatening.

I've got a spiral ham and scalloped potatoes in the oven warming up. A pretty tablecloth and napkins, some flowers, and some easter candy for the nephew.

My pretty tulips despite the daily drizzle. We're all whining about no sun here. Although, I am glad we are not moving house in the daily drizzle (Like someone I know) and this type of winter weather only comes around every ten years or so.

Happy Easter everyone.

Skydiving Bunnies

My new blogging friend, Heidi, of Red Letter Quilts, sent me an email recently asking if I was interested in this fabric. She found it at her local fabric store and it was super cheap.

As in, $5.49 a yard. This is a panel print; usually these are sold by the panel which is shorter than a yard.

Anyway, Heidi picked up on my little obsession problem with airplanes and sewing. BFF status here.
I jumped - lol, bunnies jump fast too. In my five boxes of airplane fabrics, I did not own this particular biplane print.

At first, I was just going to get two yards for the stash but then I got looking at the panel and I saw pillowcases. The lower part with the bunny airshow will be the main fabric with the upper sky portion the cuff. A little red in the right tone will be the trim.

Won't everyone on my christmas list love getting new pillowcases for Christmas? So, I asked her to get four yards. You are seriously THE BEST, Heidi!!!

Over all picture of the panel. The sky is folded over at top - so lots of blue with airplanes flying around.

Lower portion of the panel - depicting a busy little airshow with tents set up and spectators.

For the record, I would never jump out of a perfectly good airplane.

Striped Bunny

I had been wanting to make this bunny forever but it wasn't until Friday that I found a striped t-shirt.
Pencil Girl and I were garage saling and I think we found something at almost every stop. Including this NWT striped women's t-shirt for $2.50.
I've been looking but pencil girl brings me luck every time.

Somehow, looking at the PDF pattern, even after I printed it out, I thought it was about a foot square. Instead, little bunny is just a handful and too cute.

On it's way to Miss Ella - sister to Phea. I had not found anything I wanted to make for Miss Ella and here she is - almost five months old now. Both girls have eight sets of grandparents (almost kidding) so they get stuff. My niece lives in a small house so - where to put all the baby stuff? is always a good question.   This bunny, being so tiny, will be just right.
