Happy Easter Eggs

 Happy Easter everyone.
We're having Baby Back ribs and Teresa's Carrot cake tomorrow.

 Ukrainian egg decorating. My library repeated a class they held two years ago. You start with a blown-out egg. Apparently, there is a tool to do this instead of blowing them out the hard way!
Funny girl bought a kit, so I blew out three green eggs for her - I almost get a headache doing it the hard way.

This time, we worked with white eggs. Two years ago, brown eggs.

Basically, this is a wax resist method aka batik. Using wax to trace designs, then coloring them, then more wax to enhance the design, then more dye and maybe another run through with wax and dye.

The tool in the right hand is called a kistka. A little tube to hold beeswax that is then melted over the candle flame.

 Late last week, an old friend emailed me to ask a question. As I still had a few plastic eggs left, I whipped up these drawstring pouches and mailed a wee present to the cutest little girl and her brother. This little girl used to bring me flowers at work - the kind with no stems. I had a little plastic dish to float her bouquets in.

These were fun to make too.
These are yarn wrapped around a water balloon which you squeeze a chocolate egg or two into first. Soak the yarn in watered glue adn wrap, then let dry. Pop the balloon and you have candy trapped inside the stiff 'egg'.

Teresa's Car PopUp

Teresa ordered a pop up in red polka dots. Here it is.

 I did the same modification from my first one with two loops of FOE (fold over elastic) at the top. One to hold the plastic bag in place and the second to secure it (to my gear shift).

I added back in the white elastic at the bottom  to secure it 'flatter' but now I can't think of a reason to keep it flatter so I will leave this off next time. And there will be a next time. I also added the label this time because Teresa would get a kick out of it.

Both sets of elastic have an adjacent buttonhole to slink the elastic into to neaten up the appearance.

Hearts For Teresa

My blogging friend, Teresa, has a serious addiction to red hearts.

I planned to make her one for Christmas, but, you know how that goes. I made it last night based off a pin on one of my pinterest boards.


I dragged out a box of wool stash (clothing and yardage) and found the red and the blue (from a plaid) I was looking for. Nabbed my embroidery floss and a super awesome needle and settled into watching episode 4 of Downton Abbey. This heart took about 20 minutes more than the episode.


I actually had to grab a youtube video to recall how to start the blanket stitch - and how long has it been since I've made french knots?

Flock And Fiber Festival

 I met up with some blogging friends yesterday afternoon at the Oregon Flock & Fiber Festival at the Canby Fairgrounds. It's a free event and it is just amazing to see all the spinners, the knitters, the groupies, the alpaca's. The event keeps getting bigger and bigger.


For those that want to dye their yarns, comb their wools,  this is the place to take classes and show off your wares.

Unwashed Mohair

 I bought some of the unwashed/undyed and some brown dyed mohair to use the curly locks in felting. Planning on making a sheep. Teresa bought one (!) already felted. It was cute - square nails for legs, cute little face. I really liked the curly outer coat.

They have judging events here too.

This last month I've been watching The Great British Sewing Bee.
The entire seasons 2 and 3 are now on Youtube.

No more trying to watch on sketchy internet sites. I've heard a rumor that season 4 is being filmed. 

I've also been watching this season's Project Runway which has definitely toned down the drama and other subjects which have nothing to do with sewing. I appreciate Heidi focusing more on sewing and designing.
